WWW.QNS.COM RIDGEWOOD TIMES FEBRUARY 23, 2017 43 BWG dominates in the Brooklyn Italian Indoor Tournament Many Blau Weiss Gottschee (BWG) teams played in the traditional Brooklyn Italian Indoor Tournament at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn last weekend. With a great display of possession soccer, many of the BWG teams fi nished fi rst or second in their group. The BWG 2008 group won their fi nal game against Gold Coast FC by a score of 8-1 to win fi rst place in their group. On Saturday, BWG 2007 defeated the Brooklyn Italians 3-1 to win fi rst place in their group. On Sunday, the team won the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL) championship in Bayside. The BWG 2006 White team won fi rst place in their division, winning their fi nal game against Queens City FC, by a score of 3-1. The BWG 2005 groups were split in two for the tournament. Both groups fi nished in second in their divisions. The fi rst group lost on penalty kicks to Cedar Stars aft er time expired with the scored tied 2-2. The second group won second place aft er losing their fi nal game to Soccer Fun for Kids, 4-2. The next day, the 2005 group played a year up, and again earned second place, aft er losing to the BWG 2004 team in the fi nals. The BWG 2004 group won fi rst place, defeating the BWG 2005 team, 5-1. BWG 2003 beat Manhattan SC Fury 1-0 to win fi rst place. On the girls’ side, the BWG 2004 girls split their team, and both groups met in the fi nals, with the BWG White team winning with a 2-1 score. On another note, Jack McGlynn was selected to U.S. U-14 National Team. Jack will spend the week in U.S. camp this week in California.
