42 FEBRUARY 23, 2017 RIDGEWOOD TIMES WWW.QNS.COM SPORTS Flyers see gold at the Diocesan Championship The St. Margaret’s/Resurrection Ascension Flyers brought home plenty of gold at the Diocesan Championship on Sunday, Feb. 12, at St. Anthony’s in South Huntington. The Diocesan gold medal winners include junior boy Ricky Hubert and bantam boy Andrew Kelly for their performance in the 800-meter run. Also winning gold were novice girls Caroline Gordon, Lena Olszowka, Madeline Mauceri and Grace Finnegan for their 600-meter medley. Senior boy Owen Kelly won gold for his amazing long jump, and the fi nal Diocesan champs were junior boy Kacper Niepojok and bantam boy Conor O’Leary for their medal-winning performance in the 400-meter run. The Flyers’ silver medal winners were bantam girl Olai Higgins for her 400-meter run, novice boy Frank Santoro for his 200-meter run, and novice boy Thomas Fischer for his standing long jump. Several Flyers earned bronze medals as well, including bantam boy Kevin Isca and junior girl Linn Finnegan for their 55-meter dash. Receiving bronze for their 400-meter run were novice girl Aileen Mitarotonda and novice boy Finn Healing. The Flyers’ last bronze medalists were senior boy John Boger for his standing long jump, and senior boy Joseph Browne for his 55-meter dash. The peewee group didn’t come away empty-handed. Emily Pedicini, Sadie Donahue, Olivia Santoro, Nora Wrynn, and William Radu won ribbons for their 55-meter dash, while Ciara Reilly, Ethan Joseph and James Gordon earned ribbons for their 200-meter run. The Flyers’ coaches also want to congratulate the following runners for their amazing eff ort at the race. For their 200-meter run there is novice boy Anthony Pedicini; junior boys Victor Ostling, Christian Petrov and Armaan Sett; and bantam boys Josiah Boulet, Conn Reilly and Ronan O’Leary. Bantam girls Nora Olmo and Isabella Torres and junior girl Emma Torres also competed. Junior girl Roisin Wrynn, bantam boy Unai Higgins and junior boy Sean Walsh all performed admirably in the 400-meter run.
