Civic and law enforcement leaders praised the community and called for unity and support in the wake of last month’s murders of Detectives Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu in Brooklyn. The joint meeting began with a moment of silence in honor of the two fallen officers. Precinct Council President Mario Matos Jr. presented donations on behalf of the Municipal Credit Union to 104COP, the New York City Police Foundation and the PBA Widows and Children’s Fund in honor of Officers Liu and Ramos. “Our belief is that we want to show our support for the 104th Precinct and the officers,” Matos stated. “The NYPD has been through some tough times over the last few weeks. They’re putting their lives on the line when they go to work. We want to show that we appreciate that.” Capt. Christopher Manson, commanding officer of the 104th Precinct, estimated that between 25,000 and 28,000 officers from across the country and Canada attended Officer Ramos’ wake in Glendale. “We put a lot of people in a very small area and took over massive amounts of land,” he explained. Manson praised the 104COP for their hard work and dedication throughout the twoday funeral. “We couldn’t have done it without them,” he said.
