Molloy is 8-0 on the season and looks to continue their winning ways. “Our team has had success because our athletes play together. They put the success of the team before any individual accomplishment,” Head Coach Scott Lagas said. Other sports updates Jared Lovelace is ranked #2 in the nation in the triple jump, after dropping from the #1 spot. The coaching staff believes he will continue to fight for the top spot for the rest of the season. The Cougars hosted the 40th Annual Martin Luther Invitational Wrestling Tournament, and took home the team title for the first time since 1996. Led by coaches Matt Moran, Mike Toro and Scott Tabala, the Cougars also won five individual championships. The titles were won by middle schooler George Yankey, freshman Justin Tabala, freshman Nathaniel Triunfel, junior Efrain Del Carpio, and senior captain Nathaniel Glosson. Freshman David-Paul Schulze finished fourth and sophomore Nick Urzia took second place. The Cougars continue their season with meets against The Dalton School, Long Island Lutheran and Lexington School for the Deaf this month. Lady Red Hawks Brian Goldstein, athletic director at LAGCC, as the Lady Red Hawks held on for the two-point victory. The win gives LAGCC a 5-1 conference record, good enough for first place. “This is the first time LaGuardia has been at the top slot in our conference. It is gratifying, but we have a long way to go for the season. We are taking it one game at a time right now,” LAGCC Head Coach Anthony Alfaro said. “We have been preaching team cohesiveness and family values for our young Lady Red Hawks since the beginning of workouts and now these things will be put to the test everyday, every practice and every game.” With the girls losing their last game, they are now in second place in the CUNYAC with a 6-2 record. This has not dampened the spirits of Alfaro. “This will help the girls mature game by game and increase the team bonding,” Alfaro said. The Lady Red Hawks look to rebound from their loss in their next game against Roxbury Community College on Friday, Jan. 16. -CONTINUED FROM PG. 58- HHAAVVEE YYOOUU CCHHEECCKKEEDD YYOOUURR CCHHIILLDD’’SS HHOOMMEEWWOORRKK TTOODDAAYY??
