City Council Member Elizabeth Crowley had the honor of officially swearing in the GPOA slate of executive officers and the board of directors. State Sen. Joseph Addabbo was also in attendance. Contact The Times Newsweekly Call 1-718-821-7500 • Email [email protected] Mayor Bill de Blasio and Council Speaker Melissa Mark- Viverito launched the IDNYC municipal identification program for residents of all five New York City boroughs during a press conference on Monday, Jan. 12, at the Flushing library. The mayor also announced that the IDNYC card will be accepted as valid primary identification for opening a bank or credit union account at more than 10 financial institutions, and revealed the card’s full suite of benefits. “IDNYC is not only a card for all New Yorkers, it is the gateway to city services, the key to opening a bank account or getting a library card, and the ticket to many of our city’s finest cultural institutions,” de Blasio said. “More than that, this card represents who we are: New Yorkers who value equality, opportunity and diversity.” “Time and again, New York City has shown that we are not afraid to lead,” added Mark- Viverito. “In launching the IDNYC program, we are living up to our highest ideals about who we are as a city.” “IDNYC identifies you as a card-carrying New Yorker,” said City Council Member Daniel Dromm, the card’s main sponsor. “This is an exciting day, because today we are saying that all New Yorkers—regardless of gender identity, immigration status, homelessness, or other identifiers—are an important part of our city.” Among those who also participated in the announcement were Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, Rep. Grace Meng -SEE ID ON PG. 55- 2015 Salon Concert Series Starts In Feb. Shows Playing Throughout Qns. The free concert series is funded by Ulrich through the New York City Council Immigrant Initiative and supports nine Queens Symphony Salon concerts within the city’s 32nd Council District. Each concert will feature up to 10 QSO musicians, with some having renowned special guests. “Queens Symphony is worldclass and these concerts will be a great opportunity for area residents to experience music spanning various genres right down the block from their homes,” Ulrich said. “We are not only incredibly pleased, but honored to have the opportunity to present—in association with the councilman—such a groundbreaking and unique concert series,” QSO General Manager Daniel DeLoma stated. “The salons will not only be exhibitions of carefully chosen classical pieces, but will also feature interactive talks regarding the pieces played and their composers, and are an exciting and accessible way for everyone to enjoy and be moved by the stunning works,” DeLoma added. The concert series begins on Feb. 25 and has two concerts per month until June. The series schedule is as follows: • Wednesday, Feb. 25, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 85-49 96th St. in Woodhaven at 7 p.m. with the music of Bach and Debussy to be played. • Wednesday, Mar. 18, at West End Temple located at 147-02 Newport Ave. in Neponsit at 7 p.m. with Broadway musical style music. • Wednesday, Mar. 25, at St. Helens Fr. Dooley Hall at 83-09 157th Ave. in Howard Beach at 7 p.m. with Sinatra style music. • Saturday, Apr. 11 at P.S. 316 located at 90-07 101st Ave. in Rep.
