By ANTHONY GIUDICE agiudice@qns.com/@A_GiudiceReport The St. John’s Red Storm dropped their second BIG EAST match on Saturday, Oct. 22, to Georgetown, 1-0 in a game where the swirling winds were a major factor on the pitch, as gusts reached as high as 40 miles per hour in the area. The only goal of the game came in the eighth minute as Zach Knudson of the Hoyas beat his defender on the left side before passing to Brett Campbell, who finished on the ground to give the Hoyas a 1-0 lead. The Red Storm fought back with several shots on goal in the 24th minute, but could not find the equalizer. The second half was much of the same, as both teams were unable to find the back of the net. Despite the loss, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Withers recorded a seasonhigh six saves. With the loss, the St. John’s fell to 6-4-4 on the season, with a 2-2-2 record in the BIG EAST. He created the program for Reach Within, a Grenadabased charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for children and teens who have experienced adversity. BWG donated most of the soccer equipment which will remain in Grenada so the program can continue. On the pitch BWG came away with a big win against the New York City Football Club (NYCFC) Academy team. On Sunday, Oct. 16, at Aviator Field, the BWG U16 team matched up against a talented NYCFC Academy team and came away with a deserved 2-1 victory. After squandering a number of early chances, BWG went up 1-0 on a Joseph Koroma goal. In the second half, NYCFC came out strong and tied the game up 1-1. Ten minutes later, BWG took the lead on a Diego Montes goal and controlled the game from then on out for an impressive 2-1 victory. With the win, the U16s are currently tied for first place in the Northeast Division.
