Officers responding to a domestic dispute at a Rego Park apartment building on Saturday night wound up seizing more than 10 pounds of marijuana discovered at the residence. The trouble began at about 10:40 p.m. on the night of Oct. 22, when officers assigned to the 112th Precinct arrived at an apartment house on Queens Boulevard near 65th Road after receiving a 911 call about an assault in one of the apartments. According to the criminal complaint provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, Police Officer Nicole Atkinson arrived at the location and heard a man and woman arguing inside an apartment. The officer knocked on the door and identified herself as police, but the man inside the residence refused to open the door. Officer Atkinson then went an apartment one floor above the residence and climbed onto the fire escape, walking down to the unit where the argument was taking place. She found on the fire escape two large laundry bags and observed the arguing man — Richard Perreira, 27 — reach out the window and pull one of the bags inside. Law enforcement sources said the officer then observed Perreira as he walked to another window in the apartment and threw the bag out of it. The bag landed on the street near where Police Officer Kurt Anderson stood. Officer Anderson opened the bag and found several vacuum-sealed packs of marijuana and marijuana residue inside of it. Police recovered the second laundry bag, which also contained vacuum-sealed marijuana packs. In total, the marijuana seized had a street value of about $48,000. The 112th Precinct displayed the seized marijuana in a post on its Twitter account on Sunday night: Following questioning, Perreira was arrested on charges of criminal possession of marijuana; he was subsequently released on $5,000 cash bail, according to court records. Jagsheer Singh, 28, of Brian Crescent entered a guilty plea on Oct. 21 to charges of second-degree manslaughter and first-degree assault for the death of Nevin Janduher Singh on the night of Dec. 19, 2014. According to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown, Jagsheer Singh struck Nevin Janduher in the head with a foreign object sometime between 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 19, 2014 and early the next morning. The abuse occurred while Jagsheer’s wife and Nevin’s mother, a radiologist at a local hospital, was at work. “As a father, the defendant’s job was to protect and nurture his helpless, innocent son,” Brown said. “Instead, the defendant assaulted his son, causing skull fractures and widespread brain injury and ultimately resulting in the child’s death.” When she returned home, she found Nevin in the crib unresponsive and having difficulty breathing. He was first taken to Flushing Hospital and later transferred to Cohen’s Children Hospital. Tests revealed that Nevin suffered multiple severe skull fractures, retinal hemorrhages and brain injuries due to oxygen deprivation. Nevin died several days later.
