The popular Long Island City market, located at Fifth Street and 46th Avenue, will be hosting a pumpkin carving competition on Saturday and Sunday. Visitors who make a purchase from any vendor can enter to win the competition. Pumpkins will be supplied by the LIC Flea’s Pumpkin Patch from J&L Farms. On Saturday, HGTV will return to the market for a final time this season to film s an episode of “Flea Market Flip.” Guests will have the chance to meet host Lara Spencer, buy a one-of-a-kind piece for their home or office, and be in front of the camera. Visitors still have a chance to come out and sip a brew from the All Queens Beer Garden which serves selections from Big Alice brewing, Finback Brewery, SingleCut Beer Smiths, Rockaway Beer Company, Queens Brewery, Bridge and Tunnel Brewery, and LIC Beer Project. City Councilman Daniel Dromm served as master of ceremonies for the evening, and state Commissioner of the Office of Mental Health Ann Sullivan served as guest speaker. Four individuals were honored for their contributions to the group: Mark Schienberg, president of the Greater New York Auto Dealers Association; Dr. Christopher Rosa, assistant dean of student affairs at CUNY; David Kilmnick, CEO of the Long Island LGBT Network; and Christopher Constantino, senior vice president of the Queens Health Network. Rocking out to Asian sounds at “Hello Taiwan” event in Flushing Members of the Taiwanese community enjoyed a day of music, food and culture during the “Hello Taiwan” concert held earlier this month at Flushing’s Taiwan Center. The lineup included local bands that showcased their talent and a Taiwanese food bazaar featuring delectable and authentic dishes from the island nation.
