Students at Bayside’s P.S. 46 go pink for breast cancer awareness BY ANTHONY GIUDICE agiudice@ridgewoodtimes.com @A_GiudiceReport The fifth-grade class at P.S. 46 The Alley Pond School in Bayside showed their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink for the entire school day on Friday, Oct. 16. The Student Council at P.S. 46, led by Rosemary Nucatola, organized the event, officers from the 111th Precinct and the Auxiliary Police Section, including Lieutenant Emmanuel Andre, Sergeant Maria Hardell, P.O. Daryl Porti, Auxiliary P.O. Fernandez and staff analyst Anna Carlaftes joined the kids for photos and a raffle where they gave out pink basketballs in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The students were also treated to a surprise visit by crime-fighting canine McGruff the Crime Dog. Throughout October, the NYPD has been thinking pink when it comes to raising awareness about breast cancer, with each precinct competing with one another in showing their commitment to the cause, from wearing pink precinct buttons to lighting up their stationhouses in pink lighting.
