FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.qns.com OCTOBER 20, 2016 • buzz • The Queens Courier 67 buzz STARS SHOW PSYCHIC SKILLS Some might call them superheroes! There’s “Kinetic Man,” the “Mind Artist” and the “Psychic Duo.” Together they’re known as “Masters of the Mind.” All of them boast numerous TV and stage appearances. They make a living asking, “Do you believe in the impossible?” Then this magical foursome dares us to prove otherwise. It’s Sunday afternoon. More and more Queens troupes are returning to their familiar venues. One of them is enjoying another packed house at QPAC (Queensborough Performing Arts Center). A screen “downstage” offers an exciting five-minute presentation. Then, the audience meets lovely Tessa Evason and her psychic partner A VIEW FROM THE CLIFF Jeff. Within minutes, jaws drop as Tessa read minds. She knows your birthday, BY CLIFF KASDEN your most prized possessions and your grandchildren’s names. Is it magic or is it genuine mind reading? Well, the twosome have been confounding skeptics without a successful challenge for more than three decades. The Kinetic Man (Guy Bavli) moves objects and people with disregard for the laws of nature. He bends objects, transfers our sense of touch through time and space. He calculates numerical solutions with incredible skill. During his act, he brings a newlywed couple onstage. They seemingly sense each other’s tactile reactions without any logical explanation. The feat is met with cheers of “Yeah, Mom!” from her kids in the audience. The Mind Artist (Haim Goldenberg) wears a blindfold as he smashes cardboard cylinders. The payoff? One contains a bona fide 6-inch blade. He needs every drop of concentration to avoid the dangerous cylinder as we hold our breath in our seats. He also reveals some “mind reading” tricks in which subtle hand and arm movements influence the audience volunteer. The finale brings all four performers “downstage center.” Pooling their combined talents, they offer an amazing feat— enlisting the aid of several audience volunteers as they unravel an incredible set of numbers and statements revolving around the word “believe.” Yes, it’s been quite an afternoon. We’ve deliberately suspended all logic and all disbelief. The results defy all laws of reason. In these troubled times, it is a recipe for enjoyment well worth the trip.
