Christ the King (CTK) came out strong in the opening minutes of the game, as midfielder Karen Pineda netted the first goal to give CTK an early 1-0 lead. The Lady Royals continued to put pressure on the Cardinal Spellman defense, but couldn’t get another goal before halftime. The start of the second half was all Cardinal Spellman as they scored an early goal to knot the game up at 1-1. They managed to score two more goals in the half and held a 3-1 lead over CTK. The Lady Royals were reeling and looking to get back in the game as they were in jeopardy of losing the match. But in the last fifteen minutes, CTK rallied back to score two goals — the first by stopper Diana Aucapina and the second by midfielder Kiana Leger—to tie the game at 3. CTK had a few more good looks, but time ran out and the game ended in a 3-3 draw. Coach of the CTK team, John Fayad, said that his team had total control of the first half, but they just could not finish. “Whenever you don’t finish your chances you keep a team in the game and that’s what happened. They came back in the second half to score two shots and we had to rally back. For the most part I’m disappointed with the result because I definitely felt that we played better than the other team,” he said. “We get to play them again next week Thursday so I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a different result. I’m not happy with the result but I’m happy with the effort that the girls gave. Just a few goals did not go our way and the ball bounced the wrong way.”
