Jamaica Harvest Festival Celebrates 15th Year on Saturday, October 17th October 2015 (Jamaica, Queens) – The time is nearing for one of the biggest events in Jamaica – the Jamaica Harvest Festival. On Saturday, October 17th, this annual neighborhood party will offer a nonstop line-up of local musicians, dancers, jugglers, chefs, community activists, and more. It will take place at the weekly Jamaica Farmers Market, located on 160th Street, off of Jamaica Avenue in Queens. Festival hours are from 11 am – 4 pm. Family friendly events planned at the Harvest Festival include pumpkin decorating, face painting, clowns and a magic show. Festival revelers will also get to witness the Annual Apple and Baked Pie Contest. In this friendly competition, local home chefs will show off their culinary talents, with 3 prizes given to the winners: $100 for 3rd Place, $150 for 2nd, and $200 for the top honor! Music by Prest 4 Time, a smooth R&B and Live Jazz Band, will perform to put everyone into the fall spirit. The Harvest Festival will also feature storytelling and demonstrations by The Federation of Black Cowboys. Chef Fabienne Volel will be there, too, to offer healthy recipe ideas with the autumn produce from the Jamaica Farmers Market. And come by and get your FREE pumpkin and apple cider while supplies last. Today the family farm grows a wide variety of fresh vegetables over 125 acres in Riverhead, New York. They also cultivate greens and other produce through the winter using greenhouse growing methods.
