RISE OF THE JACK O’LANTERNS BRINGS THE WOW FACTOR By Elizabeth Aloni [email protected] @QueensCourier “Wow” is the first word that came to mind when I saw the RISE of the Jack O’Lanterns Halloween spectacular at the Old Westbury Gardens. Beginning at nightfall, my children, Jonah, 6, and Addy, 4, and I were blown away by over 5,000 hand-carved and lit pumpkins along a 1/3- mile scenic trail. The creations were larger than life. Pumpkins were transformed into a ’57 Chevy, pop culture stars, the Sesame Street gang, a lion that looked furry and giraffes that seemed to touch the sky. There was something for everyone to enjoy. My son’s favorite was the 50-foot dragon and Chinese symbols. My daughter loved Cinderella in her carriage and I couldn’t get enough of the enormous dinosaurs that seemed to make us feel like we were back in prehistoric times. The event is only open for two more weekends so don’t miss it. It is held some Thursdays and every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night with ticket times ranging from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. now through Oct. 25. Tickets are available for advanced purchase only at www.therise.org while supplies last.
