FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.qns.com OCTOBER 13, 2016 • The Queens Courier 21 Building ‘Bridges’ in his Whitestone home BY PEARL ADLER Few people may remember that The Queens Courier, now a group of 20 publications, started in 1985 as the Whitestone/College Point Courier. Its roots are in Whitestone, and it gave me great joy to meet a man whose roots are also in the neighborhood, and has had great success in his history as a builder. Tim O’Sullivan’s father came to America from Ireland without much money but rich with ambition. He began pouring cement for people’s sidewalks and fixing homes as a contractor, saving money along the way until he was able to launch his business building homes. Tim, a graduate of St. Luke’s, worked with his father after going to college and studying political science. He was drawn to his dad’s business when his father offered him the opportunity to take on the building of a home on one of the parcels he owned in Whitestone. “I got hooked,” he explained at our lunch meeting at Liola restaurant in Whitestone, his favorite. “I loved the process of taking a project from the ground up and working with tradesmen on creating the finished product. The house sold immediately at the right price!” From there, project by project, Tim grew his business in the town he knows best — Whitestone. It’s appropriate that Whitestone should be the site for his biggest project: The Bridges at Whitestone, a community created on the former 6 acres of Cresthaven that had gone into foreclosure. “I played tennis and spent many happy days there when I was a kid growing up in the neighborhood,” he recalled. Now the site will have 45 luxury homes with his hand, and Tim’s teams are directly involved to make sure that only the best products and details are used in building these homes. “I chose Frank Petruso, the best known and respected architect in the region. He knows what people want in their luxury homes,” he said with pride in his voice. The homes are going up, and five are already in contract to Whitestone residents. “It was what I expected,” he said. “People love Whitestone and want to stay here. Now they have an option of buying a new, well-designed and appointed home overlooking the majestic bridges.” The sales are being handled by Daniel Gale Sotheby’s. Homes at the aptly named Bridges at Whitestone start at $ 1 , 6 2 6 , 0 0 0 . For more information, call 516-313- 8966.
