FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.qns.com OCTOBER 13, 2016 • The Queens Courier 11 NORTH SHORE FARMS OFFICIALLY COMING TO WHITESTONE SHOPPING CENTER By Suzanne Monteverdi smonteverdi@qns.com/@QNS After months of speculation, it’s official: a fullservice grocery store will replace the defunct Waldbaum’s supermarket at the Whitestone Shopping Center. The Feil Organization — owner of the mall at 153rd Street and 10th Avenue — announced on Wednesday a lease agreement with North Shore Farms, a popular Long Island supermarket chain featuring locally sourced foods at affordable prices. The new supermarket will occupy 23,818 square feet of the space formerly occupied by Waldbaum’s within the shopping plaza. It is currently set to open in the summer of 2017. “We’re excited to bring North Shore Farms to Whitestone,” said George Tsiatis, spokesperson for North Shore Farms. “This is our first store in Queens, and we’re extremely humbled by the encouragement of the community. We look forward to serving them and being an active participant in the neighborhood.” The first stages of construction on the location began in September. Planned upgrades include new insulation systems, refurbishing of the existing interior and exterior, and restoration of the parking lot. “We are proud to serve the community of Whitestone and bring quality services and products that will fulfill the needs of local residents,” Whitestone Plaza, located at 154th Street and 10th Avenue, will soon feature supermarket North Shore Farms said Nicholas Forelli, director of leasing at The Feil Organization. “We’re excited to introduce North Shore Farms to the neighborhood as it provides affordable, farm-fresh produce, meat, fish and an array of other products. Our goal is to revitalize, maintain and operate a viable shopping center that will enhance the community and local economy, making Whitestone residents proud.” “Since the Waldbaum’s bankruptcy was announced, I have worked with owners and Image via Google Maps real estate companies to keep all Waldbaum’s locations in my district as supermarkets,” state Senator Tony Avella said. “After a number of conversations with the Feil Organization and North Shore Farms, I am happy to hear of an agreement that will keep this location as a premier supermarket. It is incredibly important that residents of this section of Whitestone retain their ability to shop locally and I believe North Shore Farms will be a major asset to this community.” Great rates like ours are always in season. 1.25% 18-Month CD APY1 $5,000 minimum deposit To qualify you must open a Flushing Bank Complete Checking Plus account.
