the film “The Journey” that
the New York Irish Center in
Long Island City will screen
this evening. Starring Timothy
Spall and Colm Meaney, “The
Journey” is about a deeply
conservative British loyalist
and a former Irish Republican
Army Leader who start out
as intractable political opponents,
but reach a breakthrough
in the middle of a
detour-filled car ride through
Scotland that brings peace
to the troubled region. Free
admission, but donations
are welcome. Doors open at
6:45 p.m.; film starts at 7:15

2 Flushing Town Hall
will feature an evening
of original tropical
Latin roots dance music
with Cuban rhythms
exploring the crosscurrents
of son, salsa, timba,
funk, rock, afrobeat,
Haitian compas, and more.
Jose Conde Eclectric and his
Cuban salsa band Ola Fresca
take you on a dance-inspiring
musical journey from Miami
to New York to Havana and
back! The program starts with
a dance lesson at 7 p.m., followed
by the concert at 8

Celebrate Oktoberfest “Flushing style” at the Voelker Orth Museum’s garden on Saturday, Sept. 23. The museum will
bringing together some of old and new Flushing for an evening of cultural and culinary treats. They’ll be serving up
German-American and Korean-American dishes including sauerkraut and kimchi, the German and Korean variations
of pickled cabbage. There will also be plenty of beer to wash it all down. Tickets are $35 per person, $30 for museum

will play host to “Band
Together: A Concert
Against Hate” benefitting
the American Civil
Liberties Union (ACLU).
The program will feature performances
by Geoff Rickly
of Thursday, Dave Elkins of
Mae, French Horn Rebellion
and Janelle Kroll. Proceeds
will go to the ACLU in its
efforts to protect civil rights.

late Jim Henson’s
birthday, the Museum of
the Moving Image will
be holding a special program
with Frank Oz, who
was Henson’s main creative
partner. Oz joined
the Muppets in 1963 and
would become the voice
of iconic characters including
Grover, Cookie Monster,
Animal and Sam the Eagle.
Oz will talk about his remarkable
and prolific collaboration
with Henson, in a conversation
with clips moderated
by Victoria Labalme,
co-producer of Muppet
Guys Talking. $50 per person,
