Enjoy an a-maizeing
weekend at the
Queens County Fair

An annual weekend of family fun on the farm is coming to
Glen Oaks!
Th e Queens County Farm Museum will hold its 35th Annual
Queens County Fair on Sept. 23-24. Th e fun, all-day event will
feature pie eating and corn husking contests, carnival rides,
games, pig races and entertainment by jugglers, magicians and
acrobats.
Th e event will also feature Blue Ribbon competitions in a
number of categories, including produce, livestock, arts and
craft s and baked goods.
Families can also adopt a worm for their home compost bin
and get gardening and recycling tips at the Con Edison Ecology
booth, which will also feature free craft s for kids.
Food and craft vendors will be at the farm all day, and adults
can enjoy live music and a brew at the beer garden.
Th e County Fair will run from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on both
days. One-day admission is $10 for adults and $7 for kids ages
3-12 and advanced tickets can be purchased here.
Th e farm’s 2017 Amazing Maize Maze will also open to the
public this weekend. Every Saturday and Sunday up until Oct.
29, visitors can work their way through the 3-acre living puzzle.
Th is year’s maze is inspired by Alice in Wonderland.
Th e maze will be open from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and
admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids.
Th e Queens County Farm Museum is a 47-acre working farm
located at 73-50 Little Neck Pkwy. with a history dating back to
1697. Th e site includes includes historic structures, including a
landmark farmhouse, glass greenhouse and restored barns.

Ready for a free aft ernoon of
family fun, Whitestone?
Th e community’s 4th Annual
Family Fun Day will take place
this Saturday, Sept. 23, at Francis
Lewis Park. Th e day of food, music,
games and giveaways draws thousands
to the Whitestone space.
Th e event will feature fun activities,
including pumpkin picking
and pony rides. New York Mets
mascot, Mr. Met, is also scheduled
to make an appearance.
Attendees can also engage with
their local police offi cers and learn
about how to get more involved in
their communities.
Th e event will run from noon
until 4 p.m. at Francis Lewis Park,
located at Th ird Avenue and
147th Street.

Whitestone Civic Association and
the Greater Whitestone Taxpayers
Civic Association and made possible
with donations from a number
of local businesses, organizations,
families and elected offi -
cials.

On Sept. 24, Bell Boulevard
between 39th and 41st Avenues
will be closed to traffi c to allow
for a stress-free stroll down the
bustling business corridor.
At the free annual “Sunday
Stroll” organized by the Bayside
Village Business Improvement
District (Bayside BID), participants
can experience a full aft ernoon
of food, activities and live
performances and interact with
local businesses in a fun setting.
Attendees should come hungry,
as the corridor’s diverse
selection of restaurants will
off er a combination of free tastings,
discount off ers and special
menus. Outdoor seating will also
be available.
Live performances from Gracie
Terzian and local bands Chicken
Head Rocks, Landing Approach,
Stu Pender and Poetic Th rust
will take place throughout the
day. Students from Bayside’s
Robert Mann Dance Centre will
also put on a show for attendees.
Families with children
can enjoy a number of activities,
including a Superhero
Story Time presented by Bell
Boulevard’s Turn the Page Again
at noon and a giant bubbles show
put on by spirited Bubbledad.
Uni + HYPOTHEkids will
set up a portable reading room
and science lab onsite, allowing
curious young minds to discover
new books and use microscopes
and magnifying glasses to
explore their environment.
An art station by Bayside
Paint Place, carnival games,
bouncy house and other interactive
activities will also be
available.
