Queens Village man
admits to fi rebombings
A Queens Village man will be getting a
long prison sentence for fi rebombing fi ve
occupied buildings in Jamaica – including
two houses of worship – on New Year’s
Day of 2012.
Suraj Poonai Ray Lazier Lengend, 45,
pleaded guilty to fi rst-degree attempted
arson as a hate crime. He is due to return
to court for sentencing on Sept. 28, where
Acting Queens Supreme Court Justice
Barry Kron, who was presiding over the
ruling, indicated that he would be sentencing
Lengend to 20 years in prison
with fi ve years of post-release supervision.
According to statements made by
police, Lengend admitted that he planned
the attacks to infl ict as much damage as
possible and that his goal was to take out
as many Muslims and Arabs as possible.
He later went on to state that he disliked
Muslims, Arabs and Hindus.
Cops arrested Lengend two nights later;
he would later be indicted on federal and
state hate crime charges.

Parkway in Flushing on Monday aft ernoon
that left a man dead and a teenage
girl injured.
At 5:20 p.m. on Sept. 18, police responded
to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision
involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian
along the exit ramp from the parkway’s
westbound side to the northbound
Whitestone Expressway, near Citi Field.
According to information that
police obtained, 42-year-old Matthew
Rosenzweig of Fleetwood in Westchester
County was riding a motorcycle on the
Grand Central Parkway exit ramp, but
couldn’t properly navigate the curved exit
ramp. He rode straight on the left shoulder,
then began to slide on the grass and
wound up hitting the girl, who was standing
on the shoulder.
Police said that Rosenzweig was then
ejected off the motorcycle into a concrete
wall, and the motorcycle continued to
slide before coming to rest on top of him.
EMS responded to the scene and
transported Rosenzweig to NewYork
Presbyterian Queens hospital, where
he was pronounced dead; the girl was
removed to Elmhurst Hospital in stable
condition.
Man sought for Flushing
rape attempt
Th e NYPD has released footage of a
man who attempted to sexually assault a
27-year-old woman on a Flushing street
last month.
Law enforcement sources said the
attempted rape occurred at 4:30 a.m. on
Aug. 26 in the vicinity of Barclay Avenue
and Union Street.
According to police, the perpetrator
— described as a man standing between
5 foot 3 and 5 foot 6 inches tall, weighing
between 130 and 160 pounds —
approached the victim, wrapped his arms
around her and pulled her to the ground.
He then proceeded to unbutton his pants.
Before he could do anything, authorities
noted, the woman managed to fl ee
the scene.
Th e perpetrator was last seen wearing a
red plaid button-down shirt, a light colored
baseball cap, dark colored jeans, a
dark colored backpack and black sneakers.

Woman sought for
Corona bank heist
Police need the public’s help in tracking
down a woman who robbed a bank in
Corona on Saturday aft ernoon.
Law enforcement sources said the heist
took place at 3 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the
Queens County Savings Bank located at
51-13 108th St., near Corona Avenue.
According to authorities, the bandit —
described as a black woman standing 5
foot 5 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds
with a dark complexion and wearing a
black coat, black hat and black sunglasses
— approached the counter and passed a
demand note to a 21-year-old female teller.
Th e employee complied with the
request and handed to the suspect an
undetermined amount of money, police
said. Cash in hand, the thief fl ed the scene
in an unknown direction.

Astoria hate vandal
facing 90 days in jail
An Astoria man has admitted in court
to going on a six-month-long graffi ti rampage
in the neighborhood in which he left
homophobic slurs and anti-Obama messages
on homes and businesses.
Yaacov Shemesh, 53, pleaded guilty on
Sept. 19 to third-degree criminal mischief,
an E felony. Acting Supreme Court Justice
Gia Morris, who presided over the ruling,
indicated that she will sentence Shemesh
at a Nov. 1 hearing to 90 days in jail, fi ve
years probation and sensitivity training.
According to Queens District Attorney
Richard A. Brown, between December
2016 and May 2017, Shemesh vandalized
both residential and commercial buildings
and garages within walking distance
of his home with homophobic slurs combined
with the name of former President
Barack Obama. Occasionally used the
slurs would be combined with New York
City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s name and
former Presidential candidate Hillary
Clinton.
