Forty new inductees were added to the original 44 members. ARISTA is the New York City name for the nationwide National Honors Society. Requirements to be admitted to the Van Buren Chapter are an overall 85 average, scholarship, leadership, service and character. The chapter president is Alpi Amin, vice president is Sabila Rana, treasurer is Mesha Patel and secretary is Stacy Bharrat. Pamela Fried is the adviser and Sam Sochet is the principal. (Photo by Brian Greenspan) Multicultural students of Pan American International High School Shown are students on the Pan American International High School, Elmhurst, soccer team. Soccer is a big sport because this small school (fewer than 400 students) has many Hispanic students who have been in this country fewer than four years. The mission of the school is to integrate the students into United States culture, help them obtain a high school diploma and prepare for college or a career while helping them maintain their original culture. The principal of the Pan American International High School is George Badia. (School Photo) Honors students rewarded with extravagant field trip Shown are students from the Math, Science, Research & Technology High School (MAST) in the Campus Magnet Complex, Cambria Heights, on a field trip to Washington, D.C. The photo shows students at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Students who were on the school’s honor roll were given this trip as a reward for their academic achievement. Trips like this are but one way the school motivates students to keep studying hard.
