To protect their investment, couples may want to purchase wedding insurance. Initially, purchasing wedding insurance may not seem like a good idea. What’s the point in spending $150 to $500 for an insurance policy that may not get used? While it’s true that there is a chance of losing out on the money, there is also a chance that disaster could strike, forcing the wedding to be postponed. In that case, the costs covered by wedding insurance would more than make up for the money spent on the policy originally. Disaster can strike at any time. No bride or groom is immune to it, and for couples with large wedding budgets, it pays to have wedding insurance. Most policies will cover the following:
• Illness or injury. Should a key person suffer illness or injury, the policy may cover some or all of the costs associated with rescheduling the wedding.
• Inclement weather. Should the weather turn sour, the policy may cover some or all of the costs associated with rescheduling the wedding.
• Military service/ job. Should the bride or groom suddenly be called away on military duty or relocated by their company, the policy may cover some or all of the costs associated with rescheduling the wedding.
• No-show officiant/vendors. Should the officiant or any of the major vendors fail to show, the policy may cover some of the related costs and perhaps even the costs associated with rescheduling the wedding.
• Venues. Should the ceremony or reception site go out of business or incur some type of damage, the policy may cover some of the related costs and perhaps even the costs associated with rescheduling the wedding. Additional riders may be purchased with the policy for further protection. These may cover the costs of replacing formalwear, gifts, photos or videos. Couples that are having their wedding at home may want to purchase personal liability and medical coverage riders in case a guest gets injured or the property gets damaged. Before purchasing a wedding insurance policy, couples should check with their venues and vendors to see what kind of insurance coverage they have. There is no need to insure an area twice. Once they have some idea of the coverage they will need, couples should set up an appointment with their agent to discuss their options and select the best one for their situation. After they receive the policy, couples should review it in depth. That way, should disaster strike, they will know exactly what their wedding insurance policy covers and to what degree. Wedding insurance can be beneficial for couples that have spent a lot on their wedding and want to protect their investment. It will protect them from financial loss in a variety of situations. It will not, however, protect them from anything they may have known about prior to taking out the policy or from cold feet. Couples that choose to cancel their wedding for personal reasons must simply incur the loss.
