You also selected your dress. Now it’s time to move on to what your bridesmaids will wear. It’s time for some fun. You can shop for bridesmaid dresses at almost any place that sells dresses. You don’t have to stick to bridal boutiques or choose dresses made specifically for weddings. You can purchase whatever dresses appeal to you that will work for the tone of the occasion. Informal backyard weddings may call for cute sundresses, while formal ballroom weddings may call for exquisite gowns. You’ll find all kinds of styles, and you don’t have to select just one. Not all styles will suit all body types. Drop-waist dresses, for example, tend to look best on hourglass figures, while empire-waist dresses look good on almost any figure. To accommodate for this, you might want to allow your bridesmaids more freedom to choose the styles most suitable to them, providing they stay within the desired color palette. Color is important. What is your wedding color palette? The dresses should reflect or complement it. With a navy blue and yellow wedding, for example, the maid of honor might wear a yellow dress and navy shoes, while the bridesmaids wear navy dresses and yellow shoes. Keep in mind that dress shades do not have to match the color palette exactly, especially if you have someone in the wedding party whom the palette does not suit. A pale yellow dress might make your fair maid of honor look washed out. Choose a different color for a better look, a buttery yellow, perhaps. Be prepared to adjust the colors as needed for the right look. Comfort matters. Your bridesmaids will be doing a lot of walking, standing and dancing on your wedding day. Don’t make it worse for them by selecting superlong, tight-fitting dresses and stiletto heels. Look for attire and footwear appropriate for the season that will allow your attendants to move with ease. While you’re at it, make sure you select quality attire that will not wrinkle. There may not be time to grab an iron between the ceremony and the reception. Finally, consider budget. Some of your bridesmaids may be on a tight budget. Respect that by selecting affordable attire and footwear. Sure, you may adore the $1500 dress, but the price may be too steep for some of your bridesmaids. Be prepared to help foot the bill or compromise on something a little more affordable. Remember, your bridesmaids may not have the opportunity to wear the dress again depending upon the style chosen. Selecting bridesmaid dresses can be great fun, especially if you make a day of it with your bridesmaids. Just be careful that you don’t go overboard. Pay attention to cut, color, comfort, cost and all of the other factors that go into selecting the right dresses for the occasion. More importantly, listen to you bridesmaids. If they are hesitant about a particular dress, find out why. Their opinion matters. After all, they are the ones paying for and wearing the dress and shoes you select. of the The
