The cleanup took place as part of NeighborWorks Week 2016 (June 4-11), a national effort bringing together residents to revitalize the communities where they live and work. More than 100 volunteers — including little league ballplayers, members of a local mosque and Citi bank employees — worked to repaint fences and remove garbage from basketball courts at the Park of the Americas, located at the corner of 41st Avenue and 104th Street. “Park of the Americas is a space used by many and is usually a host to a plethora of activities, some that support play and community building and others that do not,” said Yoselin Genao-Estrella, neighborhood executive director of Neighborhood Housing Services of Northern Queens. “Our event is about making the park a safer space while cultivating relationships through our work.”
