Offer expires 12/31/15 LIP $5 and civilian personnel at its annual awards ceremony on June 7 at the Adria Hotel in Bayside. “You are the members of our community who have sometimes realized that there are things that need to be done that are not always easy to do,” said Council President Jack Fried. “But remember, the reason you took this job was to be of service: to your family, your friends and your community.” The 111th Precinct’s commanding officer, Captain William McBride, presided over the ceremony. “There are so many people that are dedicated to serving the community in the 111th Precinct,” McBride said, “but the people that we honor tonight went really above and beyond in more ways than one.” Lieutenant Sean Dolphin, the precinct’s special operations coordinator, received the Supervisor of the Year award. The Detective of the Year award went to Detective James Phillips, who closed several robbery and burglary patterns in the area and has made 25 arrests so far this year, including one for attempted murder. Naomi Pena, a freshman at Bayside High School and member of the NYPD Law Enforcement Explorers program since 2014, was named Explorer of the Year. The Crossing Guard of the Year award went to Angelina Annarumma, who has been a crossing guard for 15 years and currently works at P.S. 94. Auxiliary Lieutenant Stephen Hatzistefanidis was named Auxiliary Officer of the Year, Linda Plutowski won Civilian of the Year, and Eric Iocco was named Police Officer of the Year. Councilman Barry Grodenchik was in attendance to offer his thanks to the honorees. “What you do day in and day out really cannot be overestimated,” Grodenchik said. “The most important thing we do as a city is protect our citizens, and it starts right here with the men and women of the 111th.”
