Police said the 24-year-old robber, Andrew McClean of Whitestone, Queens, walked into the Parkside Pub located at 24-14 149th St. just before 3:53 a.m. on June 13. He displayed a firearm and attempted to rob the patrons. Law enforcement sources said that the retired 69-year-old officer then pulled out his own gun from an ankle holster and opened fire, striking the robber in the head. Officers from the 109th Precinct responded to the scene along with EMS units, who pronounced the robber dead. The investigation is ongoing but according to authorities, the retired officer will not be charged for his actions.
