The two alarm fire broke out around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27 at a home located at 84th Street and 163rd Avenue, said an FDNY official. It was brought under control around an hour later. One person was injured in the blaze and was initially taken to Jamaica Hospital with serious injuries, according to the spokesperson. The woman was later transferred to Cornell Medical Center for burn treatment, according to a police source. The fire also caused one of the home’s walls to collapse. According to FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Robert Maynes, who was at the scene, the fire was caused by a gas explosion, but authorities are still investigating what ignited it.
