The 3 p.m. show will feature Vaudeville, musical comedy and contemporary theater as tools to weave a history of the intersections of American and Jewish culture. MONDAY, APRIL 25 This Monday will mark the launch of the New York Music Competition for Young Artists’ 2016 competition where fi rst- and second-place winners will go on to perform at Merkin Concert Hall along with a cash prize of $500. The competition is set to begin with the piano preliminary and will be hosted at the YWCA of Queens. There is also a $50-$100 registration fee. Join Tenaya Hurst of Rogue Making this Monday at the New York Hall of Science from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for her BumbleBot workshop, where you can learn to make your very own bumble bee robot in only 10 minutes! Flushing Town Hall will be hosting this week’s Moth StorySLAM, an open-mic storytelling competition, this Monday at 7 p.m. Prospective contestants will drop their names into a hat and 10 lucky contestants will be chosen to get on stage and tell a fi ve-minute story, which will be judged by a panel of judges. This monthly show welcomes comedians from all over the city to come and talk to the audience about something they should know. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 27 This edition of Queens Museum’s nine-week fi lm series highlighting the evolution of various musical artists will feature a screening of The Idolmaker followed by a postscreening discussion led by Mark Ethan Toporek. The screening will begin at 2 p.m. and is scheduled to end at 5 p.m. Admission is free on top of general admission. The NYC Compost Project encourages you to do your environmental duty and donate food scraps to the Food Scrap drop-off for the Queens compost pile at the Queens Botanical Garden. Intended to showcase the borough’s literary talent and diversity, the Lit Crawl will be hosted at multiple bars, cafes, restaurants and lounges on Austin Street. Admission is $10 and the event will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Austin Street between 70th Avenue and 72nd Road. Wall, Future Punx, and King Pussy Face will be playing a punk show featuring ASL performers at this Thursday’s Deaf Club at the Knockdown Center. The event is inspired by San Francisco’s original Deaf Club in 1979.
