Pachanga Patterson presents “Echoes,” a collaborative project by Queens artists Always Blessd and Domingo Carrasso. The exhibit is intended to be a celebration of both classical and contemporary Mexican culture and in a way an intersection of the two. SATURDAY, APRIL 23 Stop by York College this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to learn about historically black colleges and universities from all over the nation at the National College Resource Foundation’s 2016 Black College Expo. More than 50 HBCUs will be in attendance and accepting students on the spot, so bring transcripts! Admission to the expo is $10 and York College is located at 94-20 Guy R. Brewer Blvd. in Jamaica. The Queen’s Museum’s Open A.I.R. Service Program welcomes you to join Madison-based artist Matthew Bakkom in two collective investigations. Both will last about two hours each beginning with a briefi ng by the artist about the history and methodology of this activity. The Collective investigations are limited to seven people, so it is a must that you RSVP with sespinoza@queensmuseum.org. The investigations will be from 1 to 6 p.m. and the Queens Museum can be found in the New York City Building of Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Neighborhood Housing Services of Northern Queens will be having their 2016 Housing Expo at the Queens Museum this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. At the expo you can learn to “prevent, prepare, and preserve” by engaging in a number of workshop topics such as loans for fi rst time buyers, loan modifi cations, securing emergency loans and credit repair. On top of all that, the expo is free! Queens Museum can be found in the New York City Building of Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Corona. The Queens International Night Market will have its opening night this Saturday at the New York Hall of Science. From 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. come browse through more than 50 new and returning vendors selling merchandise, art and food spanning multiple cultures and celebrate the rich cultural diversity of Queens. Because parking will be limited, the organizers encourage you to take public transit and arrive early to avoid long lines. Admission to the market is free and the New York Hall of Science can be found at 47-01 111th St. in Corona. SUNDAY, APRIL 24 In celebration of the Bengali New Year, the Bangladesh Institute of Performing Arts Inc. will be organizing an opera titled Tasher Desh at the Queens Theatre. The show will be this Sunday at 6 p.m. and admission is $10. The Queens Theatre can be found at 14 United Nations Ave. in Corona. The Queens Museum’s New New Yorkers program will be hosting a workshop on the music of Egypt and Syria. This 1 to 3 p.m. class will immerse you in the musical tradition of Egypt and Syria by exploring some of the greatest musicians, styles and genres the two cultures have had to offer over the last century or so. Participants will also learn to sing folk and classical songs from the two countries. Admission is free but you must RSVP with ggaraycochea@ queensmuseum.org. The Queens Museum can be found in the New York City Building of Flushing Meadows Corona Park. This week’s edition of the Little Makers Workshop at the New York Hall of Science is all about light. Stop by with your child and let them learn all about light and color by experimenting with prisms, fl ashlights and fi lters before creating their own “sun catcher” to take home. Admission is $8 per family on top of general admission. The New York Hall of Science can be found at 47-01 111th St. in Corona. Peruvian puppeteers Teatro Hugo & Ines will be performing and holding a workshop at Flushing Town Hall this Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. The performance will begin after the workshop at 2:15 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults, $4 for kids and free for members. Flushing Town Hall can be found at 137-35 Northern Blvd. in Flushing. Vendors seeking to hone their craft should consider attending Sarah Feldman’s “How to Vend at Markets” class to learn valuable trade secrets and the key to making more money.
