FRANCIS PREP MUSIC DEPARTMENT PRESENTS ANNUAL SPRING CONCERTS FEATURING OVER 600 STUDENT-MUSICIANS St. Francis Prep’s last major concerts of the year are coming up on Friday, April 24th and Friday, May 1st, both at 7:45PM in the Bro. Ralph Clifford Memorial Auditorium. General Admission tickets are $5 available in the school’s Music Office, or at the door the night of each concert. The student-musicians, who make up 11 different ensembles, have been working very hard. The April concert features our 3 orchestras, our Concert Chorus, and our 2 percussion ensembles. That night, we will be joined by students from Prep’s beginner string programs at P.S. 115 and St. Kevin Catholic Academy, who will be performing alongside Prep’s awardwining and internationally travelled Chamber Orchestra. A highlight of the evening will be the Chamber Orchestra performing Kirt N. Mosier’s tour-deforce Overture to the Wind. On May 1st, our 3 bands, Prep Chorus, and Chamber Choir will be playing. We will be welcoming students from the Band Program at St. Gregory the Great School, who will be performing with members of our Concert Band. The evening will feature Frank Ticheli’s hauntingly beautiful arrangement of Amazing Grace for Concert Band. Dr. Robert Corbino, the legendary architect of Prep’s Music Program always looks forward to having students from other schools come to Prep to perform. He sees Prep opening their doors to younger ensembles as a chance to celebrate the accomplishments of other schools and expose them to a high school program of significant quality. Senior Catherine Byrne will be participating in her last Spring Concert. For her, it’s really sad to think that this will be her last performance in Prep’s Bro. Ralph Clifford Memorial Auditorium. She is happy to be able to look back on her musical growth in her time at Prep. It gives her a chance to be impressed with herself. She feels particularly challenged with this concert’s repertoire, and she is always amazed how much the Chamber Orchestra accomplishes in such a short time. In all, well over 600 studentmusicians and 11 educators will be sharing their gifts and talents. Both nights represent the culmination of a year’s hard work, and promise to be nothing short of spectacular. The bigger and more enthusiastic an audience is, the more the performers can feed off your energy, so please do join us! For more information, please visit www.sfponline.org, or contact Dr. Robert Corbino, Chairperson of Music at (718) 423-8810, x255 or rcorbino@ sfponline.org.
