Corredos will have the students paint a mural on this topic as they encourage students to be respectful of their peers and stop bullying. Elmhurst school gives the gift of life Students and teachers at the Pan American International High School in Elmhurst donated 37 pints of blood at a drive hosted by the New York Blood Center. Michael Cardona of the Voyages Preparatory High School wtihin the Elmhurst Educational Campus coordinated the drive. Learning about taxes and charity in Elmhurst The most recent meeting of the Pan American International High School’s Parents Association in elmhurst featured a tax workshop and a coat drive. The program included speakers from H&R Block who provided information regarding tax preparation. Parents also donated more than 200 coats for the less fortunate. The program was supervised by school secretary Mailine Santiago and Parent Coordinator Juana Adams. Top Glendale students earn awards from local lawmaker PHOTO COURTESY OF ASSEMBLYMAN MIKE MILLER For achieving high marks, Assemblyman Mike Miller presented Student of the Month certifi cate to these pupils at Glendale’s St. Pancras School. Miller was joined at the ceremony by his chief of staff, Jeff Kohn. Ozone Park student is MAST valedictorian Jada George of Ozone Park has been named the valedictorian of the Mathematics, Science Research and Technology High School (MAST) Class of 2016. She has been awarded a full Posse Scholarship to Brandeis University. George has been an active member of the MAST community since her freshman year, participating in an anti-bullying program and a peer-leadership program. She was placed on the Principal’s Honor Roll with an average of 95 percent or greater and has stayed on it throughout her high school career. Last summer, she also performed research at NYU on genetics and how it affects ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). She presented her results to the NYU Annual Diversity Conference and is now a lab assistant in the NYU Chemistry Department, working several days a week. Her plans are to major in bio chemistry and minor in math, while also potentially conducting research.
