Estrella on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at St Cecilia’s Church in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. A reception followed at Renaissance Event Hall. Friends, family and the staff of the Visiting Nurse Service of NY’s Day Center in Woodside celebrated the 103rd birthday of Maria Brindis. She came to the US from Cuba in 1939, and remains very active. She credits hard work, clean living and not getting angry for her longevity. SPECIAL EXHIBIT Photo courtesy of QCC The first major exhibit of its kind in the U.S. of “Shangaa: Art of Tanzania” is on display at the Queensborough Community College Art Gallery until May 17. It showcases how Tanzanian art is used to channel healing, embody authority, mark initiation into adulthood, address the spirits as well as celebrate life and competition. INSTALLATION New York Hospital Queens installed Veronica Tsang as the new chair of the Community Advisory Council on Monday, February 25. Tsang will head the council, made up of business and civic leaders, in assisting the hospital in developmental, public affairs and community and government relations.
