John spent more than twenty years in the Queens market prior to coming to SCNB. John is experienced at building successful teams, and importantly teams that deliver exemplary service to SCNB clients – whether it is on the loan side, cash management, or any of the other banking products and services offered. The lending services group include two veteran Queens lenders, Bill Katsanevas and Lisa Stith, both Commercial Relationship Managers. They are backed up by Aileen Pilaza and Christy Yang in service and underwriting. SCNB’s support branch is led by Jose Santiago, and includes Gabriela Cabreja and Lorena Cantos. The word is out, and business has been brisk. So active, in fact, that John plans to add three loan officers in 2016, followed by additional credit and underwriting staff. We sat down with John Pollock, to learn a little more about SCNB in Queens. QM: Why is the Queens facility working out so well? What’s the magic? JP: First, I would have to answer, it’s a team effort. And from that standpoint, it is magical. From my staff here, to SCNB’s Facilities and IT groups, to our Marketing Department and Credit Administration—we are all working together. We are all invested in our success in Queens. Then I would say that what makes the job a little easier is that at SCNB, we offer a unique value proposition. We are, at the same time, both a local community bank, while offering sophisticated and specialized services. When I say local—I mean really local. Almost all of my team has worked for years in various micro markets in Queens County. Many of us live in Queens. We are part of the community here. As far as services, we offer the Jose Santiago and Lorena Cantos are ready to meet with you. full range of cash management services along with a digital suite, which turns our clients’ offices into their own personal branch of SCNB. We provide specialized services and banking packages for professionals, including medical, attorney, and CPA practices. QM: Why do you think that the local aspect is so important? JP: Our clients really like that they know me, but they like it even better that they know our Chief Lending Officer, Mike Orsino; President & CEO, Howard Bluver; and Chief Credit Officer, Chris Hilton as well. SCNB executives often meet our clients, and welcome the opportunity to learn about their businesses and their vision for the future. That’s what a relationship with SCNB is all about. We get it. We want to help our clients get there! Also, an important aspect of local is local decision making and underwriting on the loan side. It’s hard to put a value on that.
