The Queens Museum of Art New York City Building Flushing Meadows Corona Park Queens, NY 11368-3398 www.queensmuseum.org On Friday, December 13, the Queens Museum of Art will hold Corona Children’s Orchestra Concert. With over 150 young musicians, members of the Corona Youth Music Projects orchestras, choir and orchestral initiation ensembles, the event will celebrate the growth of Núcleo Corona during 2013. The Project is the first “El Sistema,” a global movement of social action through music, inspired program in Queens. This includes after-school programs and intensive seminars and camps. Join the musicians from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Museum to hear the movement that they have created. Admission will be $8 for adults and children over 12, $4 for students and seniors and free for all children under 12. On Saturday, December 14, join the Queens Museum of Art in an installment of Peter Schumann’s fiddle sermons. Schumann has performed fiddle sermons for at least 20 years as part of Bread and Puppet Theater’s summertime performance series. The sermons are a merge of philosophy and news while Schumann vigorously accompanies himself on a fiddle. Attendees will hear the strings pop and words echo throughout the Chapel of No Religion in the Queens Museum. In keeping with the artist’s tradition since 1963, there will be bread-making and bread-serving, by the artist. The performances will be held once a month through to the final performance on March 15. Be sure to join on Saturday, December 14 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission will be $8 for adults and children over 12, $4 for students and seniors and free for all children under 12. Nassau County Museum of Art One Museum Drive Roslyn Harbor, NY 11576 www.nassaumuseum.org On Saturday, December 14, the Nassau County Museum of Art will hold The Place, Those Times: A Dramatic Performance. Shirley Romaine, noted actress and TV personality, will be celebrating Long Island’s historical and vibrant artistic community. She will be reading from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and works from other writers including Ring Lardner, Walt Whitman, William Cullen Bryant, Herman Wouk, Lila Zeigar, Norbert Krapf, George Bogin and Muriel Spanier. The event will begin at 3 p.m. at the Museum. Admission is $15 ($5 for members) and includes Museum admission. Parking will be $2 (free for members). Flushing Town Hall 137-35 Northern Boulevard www.flushingtownhall.org On Sunday, December 1, Flushing Town Hall will hold Hanukkah Oh Hanukkah! Award-winning storyteller Robin Bady and alternative rock violinist Deni Bonet will be sharing stories and song of miracles, menorahs, dreidels and potato latkes. Come listen, sing, dance and celebrate at this family event. There will be two performances held on that Sunday. One will begin at 1 p.m. and the other at 3 p.m. Admission will be $10 for nonmembers or $5 members and children. Tickets may be purchased on www. flushingtownhall.org under the “Events” section. On Friday, December 13, join Grammy-nominated jazz guitarist and composer Amanda Monaco at Flushing Town Hall. She will be bringing her quartet, “Formula One,” to play original compositions inspired by car racing. These songs will be intertwined with favorite songs of the holiday season to keep the holiday spirit alive. The event will being at 8 p.m. Admission is $15 for nonmembers and $10 for members and students. Tickets may be purchased online at www. flushingtownhall.org under the “Events” section. On Saturday, December 21, families are welcomed to join Flushing Town Hall’s Christmas Workshop. The Season of Giving Workshop will include creating beautiful Christmas wreaths using up-cycled fabrics, beads and ribbons. The wreaths will be donated to various local senior centers in Queens.
