NST’s Garden
Club Blossoms
BY JILL DAVIS
North Shore Towers’ Gar-den
Club held its “Harvest
Barbecue” on Thursday,
August 26. Dawn Steinberg, an
active member of the Garden Club,
said, “The party went off without
a hitch. Perfect setting, service,
food and weather. All temps taken
and vaccines recorded. John Virga
supplied soft Sinatra music.”
“We had the dinner in the court-yard
above the pool. Buffy and
Angelo ran it because they both
love Bob and loved the idea.”
She said the area was set up with
tables in a “very elegant fashion”
with china, silverware and a very
attentive wait staff. “Angelo bent
over backwards,” Dawn said.
The ambience was very much
appreciated by the 30 attendees,
many of whom shared the senti-ment,
“With this soft breeze, we feel
as if we’re dining at a restaurant on
the shore of a Caribbean island—
we’re just missing the sound of
waves lapping on the beach!”
The idea for the event, which
benefitted food pantries at
Commonpoint, the INN and
RTCA, was the brainchild of
Garden Club president Bob
Bader. The invitees were all
active Garden Club members
who were donating from their
own garden lots at NST. “We’ve
been donating on an ongoing
basis,” Dawn said. As readers
may know, Bob created Helen’s
Giving Garden in memory of
his late wife, which utilizes four
of the 64 garden lots at NST to
provide food to local food banks.
Unfortunately, the weather ham-pered
some of the contributions.
There had been a recent storm and
Dawn said, “I only gave a dozen
cherry tomatoes out of 30 or 40
because of the storm. Over last few
days the garden has finally dried
up, but prior to that you couldn’t
walk into the garden with the mud;
some people had lakes and rivers
because of the rain.” You gotta love
Mother Nature.
