I’ve had to rebrand and change my business plan 4 times since I started in 1976. My first company was called Caryn’s
Busyness. It was a practice builder for dentists since I had training and experience in every aspect of the doctor’s office,
including working as claims supervisor for an HMO. The success of that company led to expanding into helping other health
providers and my advertising company was started in 1989. My first website went online in 1993 focusing on practice
management and health reform issues. Then in 2001, when my office was destroyed on 9/11, I decided to focus my attention
more on the patient’s needs and in 2008, during the great recession, we became GetHealthHelp.com, with the patients paying
instead of the doctors. Yes, it took 7 years for GetHealthHelp to become a business that could support me, so that I no longer
had to hope that the old normal would somehow continue until I could retire. Surprise, a pandemic arrived.
Every day since I was unable to visit my clients, who primarily live in Assisted Living Residences that are closed to visitors, I spend my
time listening to podcasts, webinars and joining ZOOM meetings. I naturally gravitate to topics that have to do with the needs of people over
50 and professionals who offer them services. I was getting so depressed. All I heard was that someone my age needs a will, wants a little
hobby to keep busy and should send letters to grandchildren. I knew that my friends weren’t doing that. In fact, I know plenty of people who
are using this time out to form new businesses and many already have done so in the last several years. My aha moment came when people
began telling me their personal stories of starting over after 50, 60 or even 70, like me. I wanted to hear more about why they did it and how.
I didn’t want to get a how to, I just wanted to hear something uplifting.
Now, I have several interviews lined up. One is with my client of twelve years, a 96 years young former probation officer who became a
successful playwright and poet at seventy. Another is a corporate executive who has become an ethics coach at 67. He uses the Torah as a
guide for helping business people make decisions. And we also have a woman who left the corporate marketing world at 62 to teach people
over 50 how to use their phones and computers to keep in touch with family, doctors and banks.
My experience, resources and creativity promote lives of joy and connection for the growing community of people aging alone. My proven
strategies have brought a new lease on life to dozens of people with whom I have formed lasting, strong and meaningful relationships. In the
next few months, I will introduce you to older people who are following their passion. I hope their stories will entertain and inspire you.
To our cherished clients, colleagues and friends:
We have opened our Great Neck and Cedarhurst offices.
Please know that we are strictly following all recommended
guidance from public health authorities, including the best
practices for hygiene and stringent infection control. Covid
19 has humbled us all, but nonetheless, we feel confident in
our ability to resume consulting with clients and providing
the outstanding legal services that distinguish our firm. In
addition, we will continue to follow the advice of relevant New
York State agencies to ensure that we are on top of all new
recommendations and guidelines.
Our foremost overreaching priority is to keep all of our
clients, visitors and staff as safe as possible. Therefore, at the
recommendation of the CDC, we will be implementing the
following procedures:
• If and when possible, we will continue to consult with clients
via telephone or video conference in order to minimize the
number of people in the office at any given time.
• All staff, clients and visitors will be subject to temperature
and health screenings prior to entering our office locations.
• All staff, clients and visitors will be required to wear a mask
to enter any of our office locations.
• Plexiglass barriers have been installed in the reception area
and other areas of the office to minimize any airborne transfer
of the virus.
• Clients and visitors may be asked to wait outside or in their
vehicles until we are ready to meet them in order to maintain
social distancing.
• All staff members will be required to submit daily health
logs and will be mandated to stay home and seek medical
attention if they are feeling sick or showing any symptoms
of Covid-19.
• Hand sanitizers have been placed throughout our office
locations in high traffic areas including reception and common
areas, as well as our conference rooms. Masks and gloves (gloves
are optional) are also available, and again, no one will be allowed
to enter our offices without a mask.
• All conference rooms will be disinfected after every use
and all public surfaces will be disinfected multiple times during
the day. Our offices have already been professionally cleaned
and sanitized.
Please note that even though our offices are open, we still can
assist all of our clients remotely as Governor Cuomo has extended
remote notarization and witnessing through October 4, 2020.
We pledge to always make your safety and wellbeing our
priority. We look forward to seeing you in our offices in the
near future! Please be safe and be well.
