26 North Shore Towers Courier n October 2013 NST Men’s Club Launched Several men living at North Shore Towers have thought about starting a Men’s Club. “I have enjoyed belong to men’s clubs in Florida, where they abound as well as part of temples and home owner associations,” said Al Fuchs, a fairly new resident. Fuchs spoke to management and sent out an email and also reserved a room in which to meet. On Thursday, September 12 at 7 p.m. an organizational meeting was held in Room One of the Coleridge Lounge in Building Three. Thirty-two men attended and only eleven of them are snow birds. Some of the activities planned included: attending sporting events, playing cards, going to films, eating breakfast or lunch together and starting a book club. Three officers were selected: Al Fuchs, President, Dr. Alex Samuels, Vice-President, and Gary Zwetchkenbaum, Activities Chairman. Men who would like to attend the next monthly meeting should contact Al at afuchs98@aol.com Stay tuned for further developments. FALL MEANS FILM FESTIVALS On Tuesday, September 17 the first of two Film Festivals took place in the movie theater at NST. More than 400 residents attended. Marilyn and Lee Wallace, the cofounders of the SSF@NST, received huge applause and many favorable comments at the conclusion of the two-hour program. Audience members received ballots and were encouraged to vote for one of the five films projected. They were: NATURALIZED: A film in Russian and English about a ritual about to be performed on a mature man. CROSSING: A look at life for a black family in a racially divided American South. ANJALI: Life in an Indian family with a coming of age daughter. LUCKY: Takes place in a Florida retirement community with a poignant look at a 42-year-old marriage (and tuna fish). HABER: A serious view at the German military and an attempt to speed the end of World War I. A committee consisting of Fred Chernow, June Schwarz, Jack Schwarz, Evelyn Pinsky and Harris Pinsky assisted the Wallaces in previewing dozens of films and making the final selections. A limited number of tickets were available for the first night, but after an overwhelming response in favor of the event, all residents should be accommodated for the Thursday, October 3 film festival. More than 600 people registered for each night in the 449 seat theater. General Manager Glen Kotowski and his staff requested tickets were distributed in envelopes to residents via their Concierge. Every resident got tickets for at least one showing. The evening was yet another example of the high level of intellectual taste and discernment shown by NST residents. The October film festival will be held both in the movie theater and the Towers on the Green catering hall simultaneously. These films cannot be projected over the in-house channel because they are protected by copyright laws. ATTENTION SNOWBIRDS!!! LEAVE THE DRIVING TO US!
