Playing host to more than 150 members, led by Roberta Gould, Julie Wasserman, Gloria Beck, Chickie Kaufman and other supporting members, the event was a rousing 10. The fun filled evening was complete with belly dancing, lessons, and hijinks. Blue and white decor provided a nice background for Bina, the professional young woman, who has been belly dancing since she was four years old. With appearances on local and international TV, including “The Late Show with David Letterman,” her repertoire consisted of traditional and exotic dances using props, such as fans, canes, swords and dramatic capes. Evoking shouts of joy from the audience, many women got on the dance floor to test their gyrating skills. A buffet dinner with traditional Greek food provided by Angelo (Buffy was attending a family wedding) was plentiful and delicious; and the wait staff was excellent. From “Miserlou” to “Hava Nagila,” the successful evening bore testimony to the great blending of the Women’s Club members and the hard work of their leadership. Gold medals for all! As summer wanes, we held another of our popular Lunch Bunch gettogethers on Thursday, August 25th, at noon. This time we gathered “offsite” at renowned Ben’s Delicatessen (Northern Blvd. in Greenvale), once featured on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.” It was “shmear” madness as members crowded the historic NYC landmark, famous for their homemade Jewish cuisine, such as Matzah ball soup and brisket.
