What Are They Saying About…James Coll?
July’s speaker for the Women’s Club, Professor
James Coll, is Adjunct Professor of American and
Constitutional History at Hofstra University and
Nassau Community College. The meeting was held
live in the lower card room, the Women’s Club meeting
to be held in person since the pandemic.
Coll addressed questions such as, “What did the
Declaration of Independence actually declare?”
Other areas of his expertise include Roe vs. Wade,
the death penalty, understanding the Presidency,
women of the Supreme Court and the road to
revolution, among others.
While Coll is a very engaging speaker on the lecture
circuit, it is interesting to note the reaction his college
students have to him. So what are they saying? This
is a random sampling:
“Took his winter class and I mean this guy knows
the Constitution like the back of his hand. He’s a
Constitutional genius.”
“I wish all my professors were as straightforward.
For a typically boring subject he made it

very interesting”.
“He is so funny and really cares about his students.
He makes history exciting.”
Many of us are in agreement with his students
and we are fortunate to have Professor Coll as our
speaker on several occasions during the year and
look forward to his return visits.
Bobby Gould: A Fun Six Year Run
Retired Women’s Club President - Still Active NST Resident
Bobby Gould, one of the
founders and the first
president of the Women’s
Club, has retired from the presidency
to pursue continuing areas
of interest. A luncheon was held
in her honor on Wednesday, June
30th, at Pearl East Restaurant in
Manhasset attended by Steering
and Program Committee members
of the Club.
In reminiscing about the
origins of the club, Bobby
commented with amazement
at its growth. With the yearly
membership drive now in high
gear, the success continues and
a large membership is predicted.
Spending six months in
Florida, Ms. Gould formed
the Women’s Club South with
other Floridians who wish to
continue activities while away
for the winter months. As
Bobby will remain instrumental
in continuing this and other
activities, she turns over the
reins to the Women’s Club new
co-presidents, Gloria Beck and
Chickie Kaufman. Photos by

A NOTE FROM BOBBY GOULD
Hi everyone,
I want to take this opportunity
to write to you. In 2015, the
Women’s Club was formed. At the
time, there was a club for men but
nothing for women. We started
with 40 women. Who would have
thought that on our 6th birthday
we would have 350 women?
After six years as the president,
I believe it is time to step
down and turn the leadership
over to Gloria Beck and Chickie
Kaufman. I know they will do an
excellent job as they did as acting
presidents when I was in Florida.
I am so proud of the members
of the steering and events committees
who have worked so hard and
given so much of themselves. I am
also so proud of all of you. Without

Club co-presidents Chickie
