Generation to Generation:
Join Hadassah/Migdal Today!
BY DEE DEE GOIDEL
Joining an organization that has a
value will provide you with validation
for your personal well-being
and pioneer spirit. You will be
following in the linked footsteps of
the great
Pioneers Emma Lazarus and
Henrietta Szold. As I have mentioned
in previous articles, Hadassah
Is made up of generations of women
standing on the shoulders of one
generation after another.
Some of you may have started
your incubation period in Young
Judea or in Youth Aliyah and later
Temple Sisterhood. As each experience
helped to strengthen United
States ties with Israel’s, we became
imbued with the spirit of volunteerism
and the opportunity to exhibit
leadership to a cause.
The secret to healthy longevity
is to remain vital and continue
to still reach for goals at any age.
Membership in Hadassah/Migdal
chapter provides you the opportunity
to do that. We are active in a cause
that produces results. For example,
the Hadassah Hospital Research
Center produced breakthrough
robotic surgery, internal camera
diagnosis and stem cell research
breakthroughs.
As a member of Hadassah you will
be a part of Healing of the World
and one day the Hadassah Research
breakthroughs will heal you or a
family member in the future.

The Migdal Chapter Of Hadassah At North Shore Towers Presents…
August Book Selection: “Bookshop of the Broken Hearted”
by Robert Hillman
DISCUSSION WEDNESDAY,
AUGUST 25, 4:00 PM -
COLERIDGE LOUNGE
“Bookshop of the Broken
Hearted” by Robert Hillman will
be discussed on August 25 at 4:00
PM in the Coleridge Lounge. The
discussion will be led by Arlene
Augenbraun and Bern Rosenthal.
It is 1968 in rural Australia
and lonely Tom Hope can’t make
heads or tails of Hannah Babel.
Newly arrived from Hungary,
Hannah is unlike anyone he’s
ever met–she’s passionate, artistic,
and fiercely determined to open
sleepy Hometown’s first bookshop.
Despite the fact that Tom has read
only one book in his life, the two
soon discover an astonishing
spark. Recently abandoned by
an unfaithful wife, Tom dares to
believe that he might make Hannah
happy. But Hannah is a haunted
woman: Twenty-four years earlier,
she had been marched to the gates
of Auschwitz. Amazon.com
“An uplifting exploration of how
people rise above tragedy to find
joy...An impressive, riveting tale of
how two disparate and well-drawn
people recover from soul-wrenching
grief and allow themselves to truly
love again.”—Publishers Weekly
“A complex exploration of
grief, faith, and restoration ... In
poignant, meditative, and stirring
prose, Hillman tells a heartrending
and heartwarming tale of love and
sacrifice." – Booklist, starred review
“Hillman’s vivid observations of
regional details, keen perceptions of
local customs, absorbing storyline,
and sympathetic characters make
the novel impossible to put down.”
—Washington Independent Review
of Books
But never mind what the critics
say…several Migdal members have
already read the book and say it’s “a
real page turner!”
