Many of us knew Seymour as president of the North Shore Towers Camera Club. A few of his photos are now on display in the Coleridge Lounge and on the wall of the Arcade near Building 3. His name is attached to each of his photos, so they may be readily identified. His interest in photography as an art extends over many years, and his work won many awards. The club hopes to mount a one-man show of his photos within a few months. Seymour entered the U.S. Army at a very early age during World War II. At first, the Army sent him to study mathematics and engineering at a university. However, this did not last very long, as, during the peak of the war they needed all of the troops they could get. So, like many others in similar special programs, he was assigned to the infantry as an enlisted man. After the war, he decided to go to dental school in New York, a step up from helping his father deliver bottles of seltzer to residents of Brooklyn and Queens in the years before the war. He had a very successful dental practice in Flushing for many years, and also taught dentistry. Seymour Roth Although his practice was time consuming, Seymour found time to build his own darkroom and become an expert photographer. This led him to a leadership position in the Flushing camera club and, after moving to Nassau County, the Syosset Camera club. His photos won many competitions. At the North Shore Towers camera club, his expertise quickly became evident. He taught the elements of digital photography to club members, often inviting them to his home for private (and free) lessons. Some joined the club so that they could take family pictures. Others succeeded in mastering their cameras and ultimately became skillful in editing their photos on computers, even though they had little background in digital technology. Seymour is survived by his wife of about 60 years, Selma, two daughters, Nancy and Joan, and a son, Robert. We shall all miss him, and those who did not know him missed out on a rare opportunity to meet such a mensch. Yes, he was fluent in Yiddish too.
