40 North Shore Towers Courier n May 2016 NORTH SHORE TOWERS Focus Group Members of the North Shore Towers Camera Club gathered at the Toby Held Gallery Sunday, April 10, for the opening of a new exhibit featuring works from the co-op’s resident shutterbugs, including club co-presidents Dawn Steinberg and Julie Weissman, Katherine Bitteti, Lloyd Kaufman, Teresa Oropallo, Irwin Robinson and Jack Schwarz. 7 of the photogs, whose shots are on display, were present for the afternoon celebration, fittingly presented with a spread of champagne and orange juice— Mimosas anyone?—coffee, bagels and Dunkin Munchkins for the young’uns, though many an adult surreptitiously enjoyed a delectable donut hole. Joining them to peruse the more than 50 fine photographic works, which festooned three walls of the large gallery space, were members of the public as well as relatives and friends from North Shore Towers, including Board Member Fred Chernow, Eneas Arkaway, Jack Schwarz’s wife, June, and Morty and Lynda Schwartz, who had only just returned from an art colony in Mexico they annually frequent. The Toby Held Gallery is located at the New York Equestrian Center (633 Eagle Ave, West Hempstead, NY 11552), above the horse stables, a short drive from North Shore Towers. In fact, the art space connects to a balcony overlooking the arena, where NYEC members practice their equestrian skills, making for a lovely juxtaposition of manmade creations and those of a higher power. The showing runs now through May 15. For more information, call the Toby Held Gallery at (516) 486-9673.
