Upstanders Helping those in Need

pounds of food looks
like? The Upstanders
Club, along with friends, neighbors
and some members of the
Men’s Club know, because that’s
how much they collected and delivered
to the Sid Jacobson JCC in
Roslyn on January 21.
The drive was inspired by Susan
Berman, Director of Community
Engagement at the Sid Jacobson
JCC in Roslyn, who was the
speaker at the Upstanders’ January
Zoom meeting and discussed the
serious situation of food insecurity
in nearby Nassau County.
The food was distributed to many
organizations that provide help to
those enduring “food insecurity” in
our neighboring communities during
these difficult times. Over 60 participants
from North Shore Towers
contributed and it was a great feeling
for all to be able to help those in need
while the pandemic rages on.
The first drive was so successful
we will be holding a second one
on March 11 and with more word
of mouth and publicity, we hope to
double the amount from the first
drive. Three stuffed cars delivered
the food last time - let’s fill up 6
cars for the next one!

event and to Vernetta Nelson,
Toby Kemelor, Adele Birnbaum,
Harriet Rosengarten, Joan Perkell,
Renee Kasper, Faye Nadel, and
Sandie Salat for helping transport
the food to the cars, and to Carol
Bracksmajor for the beautiful flyer
which helped spread the word.

SUGGESTED FOOD ITEMS NEEDED: (Kosher and non-kosher)
RICE, BEANS, TUNA, CANNED CHICKEN OR BEEF, PASTA, PEANUT BUTTER AND ANY
OTHER NON-PERISHABLE FOOD.
Food collection will be taking place in the NST Front parking lot.
For help, look for volunteers wearing red in the lobby of your building.
