PRESIDENT’S REPORT
NORTH SHORE TOWERS CARES FOR THE NEEDY
BY BEVERLY BORD
Beverly Bord and Arlene
Greenwood, chairpersons
of the project North Shore
Towers Cares for the Needy in
partnership with Commonpoint
Queens, proudly announce that in
February, 2020, we celebrate our
one-year anniversary. We are one
year old and going strong due to the
generous and continuing support
of the residents of North Shore
Towers.
The very first flyers displayed on
the brown bins in the mailroom in
each building one year ago request-ed
a donation of dental products.
And now, one year later, the dis-played
flyers on the bins again
asked for the same dental items-
-toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental
floss, mouthwash, etc. We are
excited to report that the bins
again filled up quickly with
these items.
Judith Vladimir, Senior
Director of Development
at Samuel Field Y,
Commonpoint Queens,
has informed me that the March
2020 collection is new and gently
used dress shirts and ties for My
Brother’s Keeper (MBK), a program
offered at the Martin Van Buren
High School in Queens Village.
The dress shirts and ties are for
young men for interviews or for
the workplace.
The goal of the My Brother’s
Keeper program is to change
the narrative for boys and young
men by closing and eliminating
the opportunity gaps they face
and help them to reach their full
potential. The MBK program pro-vides
programming, resources, and
mentoring for young men to reduce
chronic absenteeism, improve aca-demic
achievement, and nurture
leadership development. This
program is sponsored through the
generosity and valued partnership
with NYC Community Schools.
Ms. Vladimir writes, “In addition
to the efforts above we work to
place participants in internships
in a variety of high-growth areas.
We have found that the majority
of students do not have appropri-ate
clothing for interviews or for
the workplace. We are, therefore,
reaching out to our partners to
donate new and gently used dress
shirts and ties to help the young
men reach their goals.”
Keep in mind the following
schedule:
March: New and gently used
dressed shirts and ties
April: New cleaning supplies
(sponges, wipes, cleaning cloths,
gloves)
May: Feminine hygiene products
We are asking that all donations
are appropriate for what is specified
on the flyers atop the bins in the
mailbox rooms. Thank you again to
residents of NST for your continu-ing
support of this project.

New Board Committee Announcement:
Community Affairs
BY VICKI MAZEL Board member Dr. Stanley Goldsmith
has announced the formation of the
Community Affairs Committee, previ-ously
the Political Action Committee which
was under the chairmanship of the late Felice
Hannah.
In spotlighting the new goals for the future,
Dr. Goldsmith, who will chair the Committee,
cited issues relevant to the residents as a prior-ity.
The Committee plans to develop programs
dealing with residents’ concerns: security, real
estate taxes, medical issues and identity theft,
to name a few. A continued working relation-ship
with Community Board 13 is also a goal.
In changing the focus of the Committee,
Dr. Goldsmith and Committee members have
been meeting to prioritize the needs of the
residents and want to keep avenues of com-munication
open.
Look for announcements of meetings which
will be on lighted information boards in all
buildings and in the arcade outside the cof-fee
shop.
