Political Affairs/Marketing & Media Committee Report
MTA to Hold Public Forum at NST
on Queens Bus Network Redesign
BY SUSAN BARTELSTONE
Thanks to the efforts of
Board Director Debbie Mar-kell-
Kleinert, the MTA will
be holding one of its public forums
right here at North Shore Towers.
Queens has often been referred
to as a public transportation desert.
But, as difficult as it is to get around
Queens NOW by public transpor-tation
(let alone into New York
City) from our neck of the woods
in Eastern Queens, the redesign plan
will make it much, much tougher.
The proposed cuts will affect the
entire Queens Bus system, both local
and express. You can read the entire
draft plan on the MTA website at
new.mta.info/queensbusredesign.
People who rely on an inexpen-sive
bus to get into NYC to go to
doctors’ appointments, visit family
members, perhaps do volunteer
work or take advantage of the many
cultural opportunities NYC offers
(as well as those who go to work
and/or return from work during
off-peak hours) will be up a creek in
the middle of the desert! For older
folks and the mobility-impaired,
this amounts to taking away their
freedom to travel at an affordable
price and therefore taking away
their independence.
All our state and local legislators
will be attending the Forum to
make the MTA aware of their disap-proval,
including City Councilman
Barry Grodenchik, Assemblyman
Ed Braunstein, State Senator John
Liu and Congressman Tom Suozzi.
Petitions expressing our feel-ings
about the proposed redesign
are being circulated and will be
presented to MTA officials at the
March 19th Forum to show the
strength of our community and

the importance of our bus service
to us. All petitions must be signed
by March 13! The following people
are circulating them:

Dee Goidel

Linda Rappaport also has a peti-tion
in her office so feel free to stop
in there and sign. You can leave
any questions you’d like Debbie
Markell-Kleinert to present to the
MTA with your above-named build-ing
reps as well.
Thanks to the entire community
for working together for the com-mon
good. Make sure to attend
the Forum so North Shore Towers’
voice can be heard…loud and clear.

BAYADA Home Health Aide Peggy Peck helps her client Mrs. Mary Lou A.
with activities of daily living and needed comfort and companionship.
Nothing is better than the comfort
of home.
But sometimes, a health issue can
make it hard for individuals to
manage everyday tasks on their
own.
How BAYADA can help.
Assistive care services are personal
care services that help clients with
self-care needs and household
support tasks.
How does BAYADA assistive care
work?
• We work closely with the client,
physician and family to create a
plan that best suits their needs
• If the client's needs change over
time, BAYADA can offer other
services, such as nursing and
therapy, that can enable them to
remain safely at home
• We are available 24 hours a day to
