Sealed with a Kiss Back by popular demand, Marilyn Carminio kicked off the Superbowl of events on Wednesday, January 18, with an exciting and original discussion, called “Sealed with a Kiss: The History and Traditions of Marriage.” Always perceptive and interesting, Ms. Carminio is a retired school teacher and held various positions at women’s magazines, such as Cosmopolitan, where she worked for Helen Gurley Brown. She lectures extensively at Long Island venues, including universities, libraries and historical societies. Tracing the history of marriage from B.C. to modern times, a long walk down the aisle has undergone significant changes through the centuries. Using a series of slides and entertaining narrative, Photos by Julie Weissman Ms. Carminio explored the different concepts of family traditions, cultures, love, matchmaking and the evolution of the basis of marriage. Her talk included the origins of the “best man” and ushers, “something old, something blue” and the myriad customs from biblical to modern times. The enthusiastic applause at the end of the program bore testimony to its success. What’s Up Next?
