The “No Smoking” Amendment to the Proprietary Lease of North Shore Towers New York State Senator Tony Avella, Nancy Copperman, Northwell Health, AVP Public Health and Community Partnerships, and North Shore Towers Board Member Phyllis Goldstein symbolically "trash" packets of cigarettes at last month's press conference announcing the NST “No Smoking” amendment AMENDMENT COURTESY OF NORTH SHORE TOWERS MANAGEMENT Photo by Stephen Vrattos A “No Smoking” amendment to the proprietary lease of North Shore Towers was voted on and passed successfully in a special election with 72% of all outstanding shares voting in favor of the amendment. “Effective January 1, 2017 the Lessee nor anyone else occupying or visiting shareholders apartments shall not be permitted to smoke any cigarettes, cigars, pipes or other substance in the apartment, terrace or balcony.” In effect, smoking is not permitted anywhere within the enclosed areas of North Shore Towers or within the enclosed areas of the Towers Country Club. This includes hallways, stairwells, the Arcade, the Courtyard, the laundromat, cardrooms, lounges, the truck tunnel and anywhere in the garage. In addition, the newly passed amendment now includes all individual apartments and the adjoining exterior terraces and balconies as non-smoking areas. In order to accommodate persons who still choose to smoke there are several areas throughout the exterior of our buildings where smoking will be permitted. Each of these areas has been outfitted with a receptacle for cigarette butts. The designated smoking areas include: • The area in front of the garage elevator kiosk towards the roadway between the kiosk and bus stop in the front of all three buildings. • By the Building 1 Truck Tunnel exit, between the exit and rear entry door of the Country Club. • By the Building 2 Truck Tunnel entrance. • By the Employee Parking lot in the rear South side of Building 3. • By the outside loading platform in the rear North side of Building 3. • By the outside rear exit of the Towers Restaurant. • By the outside circle area by Towers on the Green. • On the outside Country Club terrace for Country Club Members and their invited guests only. • On the Golf Course for Country Club Golf Members and their invited guests only. • By the Outdoor Pool, in the area behind the upper deck, between the pool perimeter fence and the golf course fence for Country Club Pool Members and their invited guests only.
