North Shore Towers Courier n January 2016 3 Barry in the Round North Shore Towers Residents Welcome Newly Elected Council Member, Barry Grodenchik By Felice Hannah North Shore Towers Board of Directors; Political Action Chairperson North Shore Towers Political Action Committee hosted a Round Table Meeting on December 3, 2015, to introduce Barry Grodenchik, Councilmember for CD 23. Mort Gitter, President of the North Shore Towers (NST) Board of Directors, opened the meeting. He stated that NST residents and The Board of Directors look forward to working with Mr. Grodenchik’s office. Assembly member, Edward Braunstein said that he and Mr. Grodenchik would work together on many issues effecting New York City. Mr. Braunstein shared that Albany will be in session in January to work on the Budget and he and Mr. Grodenchik will advocate for a fair share of the budget for residents living in AD 26 and CD 23. Mr. Braunstein said that he would return to North Shore Towers after the session ends and give a full report on the State of The Budget. Following an introduction by Felice Hannah, NST Board of Directors Political Action Chairperson, Mr. Grodenchik outlined his priorities. Some of the issues that he outlined included the building of more schools to accommodate the increased school age population in the Borough of Queens; improving mass transportation; keeping Queens residential and not allowing the construction of high-rise buildings; and building more affordable housing for seniors. Mr. Grodenchik stated that he would work with Bob Friedrich, President of Glen Oaks Co-op and President of the PCCC on many community issues, including fairer taxes for co-op and condo owners. Mr. Grodenchik promised to “not change” and said that he would be our voice of reason. As a former Assembly member, Mr. Grodenchik has Floor Privileges. He pledged to exercise these while meeting with State Representatives in Albany to address the concerns of his CD 23 constituents. Photos by Julie Weissman (l. to r.)
