North Shore Towers Courier n January 2016 13 Schneps, who began The Courier, laying out the pages on her living room floor, with a mere $250 and while raising four children. Others sowed the seeds of their success in the soils of personal tragedy, such as Joni Migliaccio, President of AMG Demolition, which she founded after losing her husband. Jacquelyn Hance, Co-president of Hance Family Foundation, founded the company with her husband after the tragic death of their three children in a car accident. And Susan Helsinger launched The Jason F. Gruen Research Foundation—a charity which raises money for pediatric heart disease research—after losing her son to the same illness. The festivities then shifted to the main dining room on the catering palace’s lower level. A cocktail hour with many more guests and a delicious three-course dinner preceded the official handing out of the awards. Tai Hernandez of ABC News served as the evening’s master of ceremonies. A long red carpeted runway bisected the room, affording each recipient a celebratory walk before the gathered crowd after accepting their honor. Husband Kia and two of three children attended in support of Pouran at a Queens-based “Top Women in Business” approximately eight years ago. The salon, spa and boutique entrepreneur, who left her native Iran and a successful television and stage acting career at a mere 18-years-old to pursue the American Dream, was honored and excited, yet nervous, about the event at the time. “I had a much better time than last one,” she revealed about the Long Island gala. “I was more relaxed; I knew what it was about.” Though none of her children were present at the latest affair, husband Kia and two full tables of friends, colleagues, clients and co-workers attended to celebrate with Pouran. “For the second time, she’s hitting the mark,” beaming Kia said of his wife. “She does so many amazing things, so they recognize her!” Pouran describes her philosophy as “old-fashioned,” including hard work and fomenting good relationships with others. “I love people, even when they don’t come to me,” she explained. “I listen to them and care for them… They feed you back. You must have patience, a good attitude and love what you do.” Linda Rappaport was supported by Husband Dennis, Mother Carole Goldich, Son Tony and Daughter-in-Law Jacquelyn—all NST residents— as well as colleagues in the real estate office at North Shore Towers and Greenthal Management, including NST General Manager Glen Kotowski; William West, Chairman & CEO, Charles H.
