As the sun sets on long, lazy summer days, we set our sights on the autumnal equinox and the
anticipated changes that come with it.
Among those facing changes are police officers locally and nationwide amid widespread calls for
justice system reforms. Helping local law enforcement navigate those changes are James McDermott
and Noel DiGerolamo, the leaders of the Nassau and Suffolk Police Benevolent Associations
— the unions that represent rank-and-file cops — who adorn this month’s cover.
The pandemic continues to have far-reaching effects and this month, our business reporter Claude
Solnick, who teamed up with our star intern Dana Chieuh, examines how the coronavirus is changing
the fall harvest season at East End farms. Solnick also brings us his conversation with office furniture maker
Varun Bansal, CEO of RJV Office, who shares how the pandemic is changing the workplace.
This issue also features a special section with helpful advice for what positive changes men can
make for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Health guru Michelle Gabrielle Centamore is in
the lead-off spot in that section.
Helping families cope with the many changes brought on by the pandemic is Dr. Marc Brackett,
director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, on the cover of our family and education
section.
In Press Home, interior design beat reporter Tammy Scileppi covers pro tips for DIY designs that homeowners can make to change
their living space for the better while spending more time at home.
And in Press Buzz, our reporters bring you a roundup of local bridle paths for socially distant fun on horseback, cideries and
distilleries to hit between apple-picking jaunts, and more!
ICYMI, check out our new set of e-newsletters including LI Family, Live+Well, MainDish and The Daily. As always, don’t forget to like
us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, and check out the updated-daily longislandpress.com
Happy fall!
