6 LONGISLANDPRESS.COM • AUGUST 2019
FROM THE PUBLISHER
Fading into the sunset are the long, lazy days of summer. It feels like school
just got out and yet here we are talking about another exciting back-to-school
season full of promising new starts.
August is one my favorite months of the year. I love Long Island’s beaches,
the pink sunsets, and the excitement that grows as school gets closer. August
is also our Back-to-School edition, and inside you’ll find stories on how to
advocate for your child in school, the nonprofit Helping Hand Foundation’s
scholarships, the Stuff-A-Bus program, and an interview with Farmingdale
State College President Dr. John Nader.
Celebrate what’s left of summer with World Cup-winning U.S. Women’s
National Soccer Team champions Allie Long and Crystal Dunn, two Long
Islanders adorning the cover and sharing their inspirational story inside
this issue.
You’ll also find insightful stories on a new company opening a fresh produce
shipping route between Connecticut and Long Island, the CBD trend, and the
brewing fight over a proposed mixed-use development in Manhasset.
But before packing those backpacks, make sure to join the summery pilgrimage to Montauk, the subject of
this month’s Destinations column and Main Dish dining section.
And as always, don’t forget to like Long Island Press on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and Instagram, and sign
up for our twice-weekly eblasts rounding up everything for you on the updated-daily longislandpress.com
Enjoy these last days of summer!
