Drive-in movies are making a comback due to coronavirus.
VIRTUAL CONCERTS
Itching to see some live music? My Father’s
Place, the music venue in Roslyn,
is hosting a live streaming concert
series with a host of performers on

Walker, the Como Brothers, and Mike
Nugent. Find upcoming shows at my

ONLINE ART EXHIBIT
Don’t let the coronavirus rob you of
your ability to soak up some culture
by patronizing the arts. The Art Guild
of Port Washington is hosting an
uplifting online art competition and
exhibit titled Joy of Color. The online
exhibit and awards will be at 7:30 p.m.
June 11. Exhibit runs through July 29.

INTERNET PAINT NIGHT
Among the things many miss from our
pre-pandemic lives is the simple fun of
a paint night. Thankfully, a number of
local venues are offering virtual paint
'n sip events. Added bonus? No need for
a designated driver since you're never
leaving the house. yaymaker.com
DIGITAL THEATRE
Supporters of community theatre will
be pleased to learn that at least one
local stage is offering entertainment,
albeit online. The Westhampton Beach
Performing Arts Center has on its June
lineup a master class with Broadway vocalists,
a talk with Seri “Little Miss Party
Planner” Kertzner, a Q&A with Dan
Micchiche of Broadway’s Wicked, and
more. whbpac.org/events/category/

CHASING THE PRESENT
Miss catching indie flicks at Cinema
Arts Centre? Good news: The venue is
live streaming events. Anna Kolber,
producer of Chasing The Present, and
the documentary film’s subject, James
Sebastiano, discuss the movie about
a materially successful young man
riddled with anxiety who embarks on
a worldwide journey of self-inquiry.

WATCH THE BELMONT STAKES
Don’t miss the history-making spectacle
of the 152nd Belmont Stakes running
without an audience at Belmont Park in
Elmont. To make things even more interesting,
this year it will be the first leg
of horse racing’s Triple Crown series,
a title normally held by the Kentucky
Derby, which will follow the Stakes. The
race will air on NBC. 3-6 p.m. June 20.
DOWNLOAD A HOUSE PARTY
House parties may still be iffy for those
worried about keeping their distance
amid the pandemic, but thankfully,
there’s an app for that. HouseParty is
like Zoom, but instead of work-related
meetings, it features fun games that
users can play with one another. Download
it onto your devices wherever you
buy apps.
ROLL UP TO THE DRIVE-IN
Since movie theaters fall under
phase four of reopening, which is
not expected until July, makeshift
drive-in movie theaters have been
popping up across Long Island as a
socially distant alternative. Sure, the
chairs aren’t as comfortable and the
view isn’t the same, but it makes for
a fun, retro night out. Pop-up drivein
venues include NYCB Live, home
of the Veterans Memorial Coliseum,
local malls, and parks. See the full list
of LI’s drive-in movies at longislandpress.

COOK WITH THE KIDDOS
Chef Paula Gottlieb Herman, owner
of Cooking With Stars, is revamping
how she teaches kids to cook to adapt
to social-distancing mandates during
the coronavirus pandemic. At the end
of each remote-learning session, the
kids sample what they made together
and discuss it. Participants can purchase
single classes for $22, or join
the Cooking With Stars Loyalty Club
and receive a 20 percent discount.
Siblings can take part at no additional
charge. cookingwithstars.com
